JR East's Series 165 Japanese saloon-style "joyful" train "Nanohana", meaning Colza Flower, made its debut in March, 1986. It has carried many holidaymakers to the warm "Boso" peninsula area from Tokyo metropolitan region to view blue sea and many flowers, including colza (rape) flowers, already in full bloom even in the season when Tokyo is still in chilly winter wind. Symbolizing such scenic travel destinations in the peninsula not far from Tokyo, the train is painted with marine-blue and green stripes on yellow ground color.
