This is a locomotive in which diesel motor generates electric power to drive electric motor. In 1958, 138 locomotives were manufactured. There are two kinds, one (road number 0 and over) equipped with Swiss Sultzer motor and the other (road No. 500 and over)with German Mann motor. They are used mainly in Southern and Western Japan.
